Health Resource - Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions. Your health. Your plan.

At Del Mar Aesthetics on the Sunshine Coast, we believe exceptional care starts with understanding you; not simply choosing a treatment.

Our approach brings together clinical aesthetics, skin health, medical weight management and women’s hormone health, with consultations and care provided by appropriately qualified registered health practitioners.

Whether you’re considering your first consultation, exploring skin needling, seeking support with your health and wellbeing, or wanting to better understand changes associated with perimenopause and menopause, our role is to help you make informed decisions with confidence.

We don’t start with a treatment. We start with you.

The information below is general educational information only. It does not replace an individual consultation, diagnosis or medical advice.

Where is Del Mar Aesthetics located?

Del Mar Aesthetics is a Sunshine Coast aesthetics, skin and wellness clinic, located in Brightwater, Mountain Creek.

We welcome patients from across Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Buderim, Mountain Creek, Sippy Downs, Birtinya, Kawana, Caloundra and the wider Sunshine Coast.

Our clinic provides a private, welcoming clinical environment where your consultation, education, treatment and ongoing care are considered as part of one personalised plan.

What makes Del Mar Aesthetics different?

We believe the difference is not simply in what we offer; it is in how we care for people.

Del Mar proudly brings together experienced registered health practitioners across clinical aesthetics, skin, women’s health and medical wellbeing in the Coast’s most accessible (and affordable) setting, allowing us to take a more comprehensive approach to care.

Your consultation is about understanding your goals, health history, concerns, expectations and suitability before recommendations are made.

Discover. Assess. Plan. Treat. Review.

Do I need a consultation before treatment?

For many treatments, yes.

A consultation allows your clinician to assess your individual circumstances, discuss your goals and expectations, explain appropriate options, and consider risks, benefits and alternatives.

Where prescription medicines or other clinically regulated treatments are involved, an appropriately authorised prescriber must determine suitability.

We will never assume that a particular treatment is right for you simply because you have requested it.

Clinical Aesthetics + Restorative Care

What are restorative aesthetic treatments?

Restorative aesthetics focuses on creating a considered, natural looking approach to facial appearance while respecting your individual features.

Rather than applying a one size fits all treatment model, your clinician assesses facial structure, proportions, movement, skin quality and your personal goals before discussing appropriate options.

At Del Mar, our approach is centred on balance, restraint and individualised planning; never pressure to do more.

What are volumising treatments?

Volumising treatments are designed to address specific areas of facial structure or volume where clinically appropriate.

Suitability varies considerably between individuals. Your clinician will assess your anatomy, medical history, previous treatments and desired outcome before discussing options.

Any prescription only medicines or therapeutic goods involved are discussed within the appropriate clinical consultation rather than promoted as consumer products.

Can I book an injectable treatment without knowing what I need?

Absolutely, and we often prefer that you don’t.

You do not need to arrive knowing the name of a treatment.

Tell us what you would like to improve, what you are hoping to achieve and what you are concerned about.

Your clinician can then assess you and explain the options that may or may not be appropriate.

Your face. Your skin. Your plan.

Are aesthetic treatments safe?

All medical and cosmetic procedures carry potential risks.

At Del Mar, safety begins with appropriate assessment, qualified practitioners, informed consent, infection control procedures and clear aftercare.

Your clinician will explain relevant risks, potential side effects, expected recovery and alternatives before you decide whether to proceed.

No responsible practitioner can guarantee an outcome or describe a treatment as completely risk free.

What if I have had treatment somewhere else?

Tell us.

Previous procedures, products, timing and complications can all be clinically relevant when assessing suitability for future treatment.

We encourage complete and honest disclosure so your clinician can make the safest possible recommendation.

Skin Needling + Skin Health

What is skin needling?

Skin needling is a minimally invasive skin treatment that uses controlled micro-injury to stimulate the skin’s natural repair processes.

It may be considered as part of a broader skin health plan for concerns such as uneven texture, visible signs of ageing and overall skin quality, depending on individual suitability.

Your clinician will assess your skin before recommending a treatment plan.

What is Elevation with Exosomes?

Elevation with Exosomes is Del Mar’s advanced skin needling experience, designed as a comprehensive approach to skin renewal and skin health.

Your treatment is performed by an appropriately qualified registered health practitioner and may be combined with complementary skin treatments according to your individual assessment.

Rather than treating skin in isolation, we consider your skin history, concerns, lifestyle, existing skincare and longer-term goals.

How many skin needling treatments will I need?

There is no universal number.

Skin responds differently from person to person, and your clinician will recommend a treatment schedule based on your skin, concerns, previous treatments and desired outcome.

Consistency and appropriate home skincare may also form part of your overall skin-health plan.

We offer skin needling in single visits, or multi bundles to support your goals.

Can I combine skin treatments with aesthetic treatments?

Sometimes.

The safest and most appropriate sequence depends on your skin condition, previous treatments, medications and individual circumstances.

Your clinician will advise whether treatments should be combined, separated or postponed.

Medical Weight Management

What is medical weight management?

Medical weight management is a clinician led approach to supporting people with their health and weight related goals.

At Del Mar, this involves assessment of your individual health history, weight history, lifestyle, nutrition, relevant medical factors and goals.

Where clinically appropriate, prescription treatment may form one component of a broader management plan.

Is medical weight management just about medication?

No.

Effective weight management is more comprehensive than medication alone.

Your plan may involve discussion around nutrition, physical activity, sleep, behavioural factors, health history and ongoing clinical monitoring, alongside any treatment that your authorised prescriber considers appropriate.

How do I know whether medical weight management is appropriate for me?

Suitability can only be determined following an individual clinical assessment.

Your clinician will consider your health history, current medications, relevant medical factors, weight history and goals before discussing appropriate options.

Not every treatment is suitable for every person.

How often will I need appointments?

That depends on your individual plan.

Some patients require closer monitoring initially, while others may move to longer intervals once their care is established.

Your clinician will explain the recommended follow-up schedule and what you should expect throughout your care.

Will I need ongoing monitoring?

Yes, where clinically indicated.

Ongoing care allows your health professional to assess your response, monitor safety and make clinically appropriate adjustments to your management plan.

Medical weight management is not a set and forget service.

Women’s Hormone Health + MHT

What is MHT?

MHT means menopausal hormone therapy.

It is a medical treatment approach that may be considered for some women experiencing symptoms associated with perimenopause and menopause.

At Del Mar, women’s hormone health consultations are designed to look at the whole person rather than a single symptom.

What is the difference between perimenopause and menopause?

Perimenopause is the transitional stage leading up to menopause. Hormone levels can fluctuate significantly during this time, and symptoms may begin before periods stop.

Menopause is reached when a woman has experienced 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period, when there is no other medical explanation.

The experience is different for every woman.

What symptoms can occur during perimenopause and menopause?

Hormonal change can affect women in many different ways.

Some women experience hot flushes and night sweats, while others notice changes in sleep, mood, energy, concentration, memory, libido, menstrual patterns, vaginal or urinary health, joint comfort or overall wellbeing.

Symptoms can vary considerably and may change over time.

Do I need to be menopausal to discuss my symptoms?

No.

Women can experience significant symptoms during perimenopause, sometimes years before their final menstrual period.

If you are noticing changes that concern you, a consultation can help explore possible contributing factors and whether further assessment is appropriate.

How does a women’s hormone health consultation work?

Your consultation is individualised.

Your clinician will discuss your symptoms, menstrual and reproductive history, medical history, medications, lifestyle and relevant risk factors.

Where appropriate, treatment options may be discussed, including whether MHT may be suitable.

The aim is not simply to prescribe; it is to understand the bigger picture and develop an appropriate plan with you.

Is MHT suitable for everyone?

No.

MHT is a medical treatment and suitability depends on individual circumstances, medical history and risk factors.

An appropriately qualified clinician must assess whether MHT is appropriate for you and explain potential benefits, risks, alternatives and monitoring requirements.

Do I need blood tests to diagnose perimenopause?

Not necessarily.

The need for pathology or other investigations depends on your age, symptoms, menstrual history, medical history and clinical circumstances.

Your clinician will determine whether further investigation is appropriate.

Can lifestyle and nutrition be part of women’s hormone health?

Absolutely.

Hormone health is broader than medication.

Nutrition, movement, resistance training, sleep, stress, alcohol intake, cardiovascular health, bone health and general wellbeing can all be important parts of a woman’s health through perimenopause and beyond.

Your First Appointment

What should I bring to my consultation?

Bring information about:

  • Current medications and supplements
  • Relevant medical history
  • Previous procedures or treatments
  • Allergies
  • Previous treatment complications
  • Your main concerns and goals
  • Any questions you would like answered

For women’s hormone health consultations, information about menstrual history and symptoms can also be helpful.

Can I change my mind after my consultation?

Yes.

A consultation is an opportunity to understand your options. You should never feel pressured to proceed with a treatment.

You can ask questions, consider the information provided and decide when you are ready.

Your Safety Comes First

At Del Mar Aesthetics, we believe clinical excellence begins with informed choice.

Every recommendation should have a reason.

Every treatment should have an appropriate clinical indication.

Every patient should understand the potential benefits, risks, limitations and alternatives before deciding to proceed.

We are committed to providing care that is evidence informed, individualised, transparent and centred on you.

We don’t believe in chasing trends or treating everyone the same.

We believe in understanding you first.

Start With You

Whether you’re looking to understand your skin, explore your aesthetic options, improve your overall wellbeing, discuss medical weight management or better understand your hormones through perimenopause and menopause, your care should begin with a conversation; not a treatment list.
